Competition Cheerleading

The NJAL offers Competitive Cheerleading to youth in Grades 3 to 8. The Newton Cheer Explosion All-Stars compete in competitions throughout New Jersey. We are always looking for new team members. We hold try-outs in April and exact dates and locations will be posted as they become available. All competition cheerleaders are required to register and cheer as a Football cheerleader. 

Competition cheerleading requires a greater time commitment both on the part of the child and the parent and there are additional costs involved to be a member of the squad.  Additional costs are needed to cover a four (4) day overnight UCA cheerleading camp, team jogging suit, competition sneakers, competition duffle bag, camp clothes, uniform midriff turtleneck and miscellaneous other items.  Complete details given at the time of try-outs.

Competitive cheerleading requires 3 to 4 days a week of practice time. Involved participants must be aware of safety issues surrounding competitive cheerleading and maintain their bodies in good physical shape.  Coaches are safety certified and ensure all team members are taught the correct procedures required to participate.  Practice starts in July and the season runs until mid-December but may run longer based upon regional standings.

The competitive cheerleading program offers participants a great learning and bonding experience, builds confidence and self esteem, and affords an opportunity for individual growth while being part of a team.
